Mr. Michael Sury
Chairman, INDORUS Holdings LP
Professor Sury is the Chairman of INDORUS Holdings LP. This single family office (SFO) was formed after the sale of the investment firm he founded and ran from 2000-2009—a nationally top ranked, multi-billion dollar investment adviser to wealthy families, institutional investors, and sovereign entities. Professor Sury has also been the Executive Director of SIFIRM—a consortium of innovative scholars (whose board affiliates have included multiple Nobel Laureates in Economics), substantial investors, and practitioners in finance to investigate problems in risk management, portfolio optimization, and behavioral finance. In certain cases, the group has co-invested in compelling opportunities.
For more than twenty years, Professor Sury has been an internationally recognized expert in the fields of investment strategy and risk management. He has served as a close, trusted adviser to some of the nation’s wealthiest family groups, sovereign wealth and government entities, and private organizations; including nearly a dozen of the Forbes 400. Prior to retiring from the industry and forming his own family office, Professor Sury organized and led a nationally top ranked multi-billion dollar wealth management firm (as rated by Wealth Manager Magazine, Financial Advisor Magazine, and the Bloomberg Wealth Manager Survey); and built a highly respected global institutional broker dealer organization. Over the years, his professional investment R&D teams—comprised of innovative researchers with Ph.D.’s and other advanced degrees across financial and technical disciplines—have developed critically acclaimed, state-of-the-art techniques and strategies for client-optimized portfolio management and diversification.
His pioneering work in the areas of portfolio optimization, asset allocation, and risk management has been applied by sovereign entities, institutional investors, and family offices worldwide. He is an award winning professor, having taught rigorous undergraduate and MBA courses in Investments, Corporate Finance, and Applied Portfolio Management at such innovative institutions as the University of California, Santa Clara University, DePaul University, and San Diego State University.
Professor Sury began his career in finance at Goldman Sachs in the early ‘90s, first recruited as a professional trader in the firm’s Equities Division, then as a Vice President in the Investment Management Division. Prior to graduate school, Mr. Sury had worked in technology consulting and later as a criminal investigator, assisting in the development of one of the nation’s first multi-jurisdictional task forces dedicated to high tech, white-collar, and economic crime investigations as a member of the Bureau of Investigation at the Santa Clara Co. (Silicon Valley) District Attorney’s Office. He had previously worked for the Greater Austin Area Organized Crime Task Force, as one of the youngest members of the elite federally-funded undercover unit.
Professor Sury received his MBA in Finance & Statistics (High Honors) from the University of Chicago and his undergraduate degree in Economics (High Honors) from the University of California.
